CRONS service dies every couple of days
Every few days, the CRONS service dies. It always seems to happen at the same time, at 8:00 pm.
I have the service set to auto-restart and it never does. I have also tried to schedule the service to start at 8:05 PM and that doesn't seem to work either.
I'm wondering how I can find out what's killing the service.
thanks

Hi Ken,
Do you have an automated backup that may be holding onto the file? We can have WhatsUp watch the service and restart if necessary.
If you look in the event-viewer on the server you should see an error for Cron stopping. Can you see what other activities occurred immediately before the error.

I don't see any error about crons stopping. There's nothing in the event viewer that is obviously standing out as the culprit.

Hi Ken,
You might also want to check the cron.log file in the \windows\system32 directory. This file can grow quite large over time. I have seen it grow large enough to cause problems. If it is too big to open, you can simply delete it and restart the service. I would at least rename it and let it recreate another one in order to eliminate that as a possible cause here.

The cron.log was about 40 MB. I renamed it and we'll see what happens.
Thanks guys!

Hi Ken,
Is there any errors in the Windows event logs?
