Moving Scrutinizer v7 to new Hardware

Scrutinizer is an enterprise/business class NetFlow and sFlow analysis tool. Scrutinizer provides historical trends of the company's critical network interfaces as well as the details on:

Who: The end system causing the traffic
What: The application/protocol that is being used
When: The time frame it has been occurring for
Where: The network connection that is affected

Moving Scrutinizer v7 to new Hardware

Post by mach » Wed Aug 25, 2010 9:51 am

Due to performance problems with our exisitng hardware were moving Scrtinizer to new hardware, I've tried looking for information on backing up config and DB but can;t find much on it.

How can I move my exisitng config and DB to the new hardware without losing anything?

Thanks

Jon

Hi mach,

Here are the instructions to migrate your data to a new server:

1. Upgrade current install of Scrutinizer to latest released version.
2. Install latest released version of Scrutinizer on new server.
3. Stop plixer_mysql and dependent services on both servers.
4. Make a backup copy of the [homedir]\Scrutinizer\mysql\data\ directory on the new server.
5. Move the following directories from the old server to the new server:
a. [homedir]\Scrutinizer\files\rrds
b. [homedir]\Scrutinizer\mysql\data\plixer
c. [homedir]\Scrutinizer\mysql\data\scrut_*
6. Start plixer_mysql and dependent services on both servers.

*** These instructions assume that the same ip address will be assigned to the new server as the old server. If the new server will have a different ip address, a new license key will need to be issued and entered in Scrutinizer, and the flow exporting routers and switches will need to be reconfigured to export flows to the new ip address. **

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Paul

Are these instructions still valid for the 10.1.3 (10.1.3.25431)version? I'm finding myself in the same position of needing to move Scruitinizer to new hardware.

Hello -

These would be the updated instructions for moving Scrutinizer:

5. Move the following directories from the old server to the new server:
a. [homedir]\Scrutinizer\mysql\data\plixer
b. [homedir]\Scrutinizer\mysql\data\scrut_*
6. Start plixer_mysql and dependent services on both servers.

Let me know if that helps.

-Jake
